OUR LAWYERS

TIM BATES
Tim Bates worked as a claims adjuster for a major insurance
company until he accepted an academic scholarship to attend the Southern
Methodist University School of Law. After graduating law school near the
top of his class, Tim worked for the largest defense firm in Dallas,
Texas. Tim’s first legal duties included defending litigation claims for
large clients such as Ford Motor Company, Cigna Health Plan, Kodak and
others.
In late 1989, Tim realized that injured people needed better
representation so he left the large defense firm and started
representing injured people. In 1994, after winning several trials, Tim
Bates became Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas
Board of Legal Specialization. For the past three years, Texas Monthly
Magazine named Tim Bates as a Texas Super Lawyer for 2004, 2005 and
2006.
In 2002, Tim Bates joined forces with Jeff Slakter to form the
Slakter Law Firm, LLP to represent people injured by Wyeth
Pharmaceutical’s diet drugs Pondimin and Redux. In 2003, the Slakter Law
Firm, LLP associated the giant law firm of Baron & Budd, P.C. to help
fight for our clients’ rights against Wyeth. Jeff Slakter is no longer a
part of the law firm but the Slakter Law Firm, LLP and Tim Bates remain
to continue and finish this fight.
Tim Bates was born in a Federal Housing project with little chance
for a quality education and success in this world. Because of this
background, Tim rejected a lawyer’s life of representing the rich and
dedicated his law career to representing and fighting for real people
with real injuries. Most of these fights are against major corporations
on a contingency fee with Tim advancing the expenses.
Justice and fairness do not always exist in this unbalanced world.
But Tim Bates and the Slakter Law Firm, LLP continue to fight for those
injured by others.
